Welcome! I’m Dr. Fátima Sancheznieto. I am an Associate Director at the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER). As a researcher and evaluator, I study mentored research training to develop effective, efficient, and empowering training for biomedical graduate students.
Acting on the Evidence-Base and National Reports
For over three decades now, a slew of national reports, consortia, working groups, and opinion pieces have all called for similar reforms to biomedical mentored research training: shorter time-to-degree, exploration and preparation for careers beyond the professoriate, wages that are commensurate with living expenses, and academic leadership that reflects the demographics of our nation. Many of these reforms have been slow to take hold at a national level. I believe we can use the evidence base to drive change in both local and systemic ways to improve mentored research training for everyone.
